are played out in heavily Democrat Russell County and Phenix City, Alabama this election. We know that that the the ones who ran the Mother Mary polling site in June of 2002 were not fired for these actions.
"I discovered they hadn't gotten the ballots out"
"They weren't running the polling place correctly"
"Not only were Republican ballots unavailable, Howard said, but workers had incorrectly recorded voter information."
"It was a mess."
"So this is a bad irritation for the judge of probate, but it probably has no real consequence for the results of the election." (so much for the Democrats claim that every vote must count)
Howard said he corrected the problem and didn't dismiss any of the workers."
I really don't think the local law has cleaned up the political process here despite a recent minor vote buying bust.
Here's the eternal whine from a story in the Montgomery Advertiser,
"Residents to monitor voting"
"Many African-American voters were disenfranchised in the 2000 Florida election debacle and in many other states across the country," Jennings said.
In the interest of balance, I suppose I should note that Mother Mary is a predominately black precinct and, one would suppose the Republicans denied the vote, white
In a converstion today with the Probate Judge, Al Howard, he told me the people involved could not be dismissed. They could only Not be reappointed and that is what has happened.
Concerning this election he told me few thousand new voters. I asked about voting trends in Russell County and Mr. Howard told me that in general the county goes 60+% straight ticket Democrat.
